Joe Gibbs Racing driver Denny Hamlin is frustrated with the NASCAR Hall of Fame voters as they did not unanimously select Cup legend Jimmie Johnson into the class of 2024. On Wednesday, NASCAR announced the induction of Johnson and his crew chief Chad Knaus to the 2024 Hall of Fame along with Donnie Allison. However, many were surprised by the result as Johnson was not unanimously selected for the Hall of Fame.
The NASCAR world expected it to be a unanimous vote as Johnson has an impressive career record. However, four-panel members did not vote for him. Many, including Denny Hamlin, were angry with the panel’s decision and expressed it.
Jimmie Johnson is one of the three NASCAR drivers to hold a record-breaking seven Cup Series championships. His long successful career in the sport makes him one of the greatest NASCAR drivers. Hamlin called the Hall of Fame system broken and demanded more transparency.
Denny Hamlin, known for his candid take, wasted no time. He took to social media and shared how he felt about the situation. The 42-year-old tweeted, “Not unanimous. What a joke, a disgrace to one of the sports greatest ever. Make it public who said no and remove them from the voting panel.” Johnson received 93 percent of the Ballot votes and fell short of a unanimous selection. Hamlin pushes to remove the four-panel members who did not vote for Johnson.

Denny Hamlin listed why the four panelists did not vote for Jimmie Johnson
Hamlin added, “To be a panelist is a honor that should be taken seriously. What 4 people did today is make a joke of that honor and for what? It can only be a couple reasons a person would have to not give someone like Jimmie their vote.” He expressed his anger and pondered why one would not vote for Johnson.
Denny Hamlin claimed the reasons could be that the four members do not like Johnson, or they weren’t voted in unanimously and are repaying the favor, or they feel they will have other years to get in and wanna vote for someone in their final year of eligibility. He added that it could also be that they voted for their friend instead or did not watch a race in the last 20 years.
Denny Hamlin has raced alongside Jimmie Johnson in his Cup career. He strongly feels that the vote should have been unanimous. When Johnson’s name was featured in the Hall of Fame nominees, many concluded it would be a unanimous decision. However, that was not the case. Despite his achievements all these years, Jimmie Johnson was denied the honor of a unanimous vote and a chance to make history.
