CALDWELL, Idaho (CBS2) — Heritage Community Charter School in Caldwell is mourning the loss of its principal, who died from COVID-19.
Flowers, posters, balloons, and messages written in chalk adorn the entrance of the charter school as students, parents, and teachers show their support. Students also painted a poster thanking their principal for his service.
Dr. Javier Castaneda was a husband, father, and principal. In a letter sent out to parents, the board said he passed away on Sept. 15.
In a gofundme post, the organizer states he died from COVID-19 and leaves behind a wife and seven children.
In a statement, Heritage Community Charter School Board offered its condolences.
"We are deeply saddened by the passing of Dr. Javier Castaneda, our Principal, Executive Director, and leader of the Heritage family. His passing represents an enormous personal loss to each and every one of us at Heritage—students, staff, and parents. Our most heartfelt condolences, thoughts, and prayers go to his wife, Maria, and the entire Castaneda family. We ask that you pray for the Castaneda family and respect their privacy during this difficult time," the school said in a statement.
