Idaho Transportation Department launches multi-year I-84 construction project in Caldwell

According to a recent news release, the Idaho Transportation Department (ITD) begins I-84 construction between Centennial Way and Franklin Road (Exits 27-29) in Caldwell. The multi-year project aims to improve safety and capacity on I-84 in Canyon County. Construction is expected to be completed in 2027.

During the project, motorists can expect:

  • All lanes of l-84 will be open in both directions during the day.
  • I-84 overnight closures or lane restrictions.
  • One-way traffic on Hannibal Street and Frontage Road.
  • Extended ramp closures, including the 10th Avenue westbound loop ramp, closed from November 2023–27.
  • Access to local businesses will be open.

This week, crews will close I-84 on and off-ramps in the project area to install concrete barriers along the work zone for the safety of workers and the traveling public. Closures will occur at night from 10 p.m. until 5 a.m. on eastbound and 6 a.m. on westbound.

  • The westbound on-ramp at the 10th Avenue Interchange (Exit 28) and the westbound off-ramp at the Centennial Way Interchange (Exit 27) will be closed on Wednesday, Nov. 15.
  • The eastbound on-ramp at the Centennial Way Interchange (Exit 27) and the eastbound off-ramp at the 10th Avenue Interchange (Exit 28) will be closed on Thursday, Nov. 16.

Improvements will include:

  • Widening I-84 between Centennial Way and Franklin Road interchanges.
  • Replacing the 10th Avenue Interchange.
  • Adding a traffic signal at the Centennial Way Interchange westbound off-ramp.
  • Rehabilitating the pedestrian overpass.
  • Adding a sound wall along Hannibal Street from 10th Avenue to Centennial Way.
