New summer collegiate baseball club coming to Canyon County

Canyon County will soon be getting a new summer collegiate wood bat baseball club.

The Canyon County Spuds will join the Expedition League, a collegiate summer baseball league that includes teams in North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska, Wyoming Manitoba Canada, Montana, and today announced the arrival of its affiliate in Caldwell, Idaho. The team will play at Wolfe Field.

Expedition League teams play a 64-game season beginning on May 25 and ending on August 7, with one week of playoffs after the regular season to crown the League champion.

The League expects to add more teams for the 2021 season.

“We are extremely excited to add an Expedition League team in the Canyon County”, said Steve Wagner, Expedition League President. “As one of the fastest-growing cities in Idaho, and an economic and cultural hub with a rich history, it’s the perfect community for an Expedition League team. The people in and around Caldwell are wonderful people and we are excited to bring our brand of high caliber, nonstop fun, family entertainment to this great city and the surrounding communities."

The team will play on Wolfe Field.

The Canyon County Spuds are looking for host families to house players and interns for the summer months. Interns arrive in mid-May while players and coaches arrive in late May; all stay through early to mid-August. Players will be on the road for half the season and at your home when the team is in town.

If interested in being a host family, call Spuds Asst. General Manager Sean Walsh at (650) 576-6816.
